With the motto "Sunshine and Greenery," Miyazaki City includes 30 kilometers of coast and is warmed by the Pacific Japan Current (Kuroshio). The scenery and atmosphere from the Hitotsuba seaside down to the Nichinan coast, flourishing with subtropical plants, has an especially strong "tropical paradise" atmosphere.

Various events are held throughout the year. In the Spring, there are many flower festivals, such as the Miyazaki Flower Festa, Cherry Blossom Festival, and Hanashoubi Festival, among others. In the Summer, the famous Aoshima beaches open, presenting opportunities to surf and swim. There are also the Erekochaya Festival, known for its energetic dancing, firework festivals, and many other events. In Autumn, there are traditional cultural events like the Miyazaki Jingu Festival, featuring parades and holy offerings, as well as modern sporting events like the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament, in which first-class professional golfers from around the world come to Miyazaki City to compete. Winter brings events such as Aoshima Shrine's purification ritual of sea bathing, a stunning spectacle played out near the wave-shaped rocks of Aoshima known as the "Demon's Washboard", and the Aoshima Pacific Marathon that runs along the road known as Washingtonia Palm.

Miyazaki City is an international tourist resort city visited every year by many guests.
