Misogi Pond, Eda Shrine, Yamazaki Hotarupia
|
 |
According to Japanese mythology, after Izanagi finally returned
from Yomi No Kuni (Hades or the Land of the Dead), he cleansed
himself in what is now Misogi Pond. At that time, the Shinto
gods Amaterasu No Mikami, Tsukuyomi No Mikoto, and Susano-o
No Mikoto were born. In a nearby pine grove stands the oldest
shrine in Miyazaki Prefecture, the tranquil, solitary Eda
Shrine, which is dedicated to both Izanagi and Izana.
In this area, the local residents have set up a place called
Yamazaki Hotarupia, where one can see several rare plants
and many kinds of dragonfly.
From April through late May, you can see many fireflies here,
too. |
