The following facilities are available in Miyazaki City before entering elementary school.

3. Certified Center for Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), KODOMOEN
4. Community-based Childcare Center (small-scale childcare)
5. Unlicensed Childcare Center (including company-led childcare business)

The “Free Preschool Education and Childcare Program” started in October 2019.
Check with the city or facility to see if a particular facility is covered by this program.

1 Childcare Center

The Childcare Center is a facility that takes care of children from infants to preschoolers who need childcare because their parents are working.

(1) Licensed and unlicensed

The Childcare Centers are divided into Licensed and Unlicensed. The licensed ones meet certain national standards. The Licensed Childcare Centers provide childcare services for 11 hours (standard service) or eight hours (short service), depending on the need for childcare. Some also offer extended or nighttime childcare. The Unlicensed Childcare Centers are operated by individuals or companies, and provide childcare under looser standards than the Licensed ones. The service hours vary depending on the Unlicensed Childcare Centers. Note that the Licensed Childcare Centers in Miyazaki City are municipal or private.

(3) Usage fee

Licensed Childcare Center: Childcare fees are determined based on the amount of the city tax of parents. These fees are exempted for households exempt from residence tax and the 3-year-old class or older. (Expenses other than childcare fees are required separately)

Unlicensed Childcare Center: Childcare fees are determined by each childcare center. If an Unlicensed Childcare Center newly acquired license, the childcare fees are exempted up to the upper limit for households exempt from residence tax and the 3-year-old class or older.

2 Kindergarten

The Kindergarten is a facility that takes care of preschoolers from the month after they become three years old. The standard service hours are 4 hours, but some facilities extend their service hours. The kindergartens intend to provide education to get children prepared for elementary school and have three types: national, municipal, and private.

3 Certified Children’s Garden

The Certified Children’s Garden is a facility that combines the functions of the Childcare Center and the Kindergarten.
As a Childcare Center, it takes care of infants aged less than one year to preschoolers in the same manner as the Childcare Center while as a Kindergarten, it provides the education equivalent to that of the Kindergarten. Accordingly, the Certified Children’s Garden combines their advantages.

4 Community-based Childcare Center

The Community-based Childcare Center provides detailed childcare to a small group of six to 19 children aged 0 to 2 years in an atmosphere similar to that of home. The service hours are the same as those of the Childcare Center when it functions as the same.
